Content

  • Understand why Greek culture is considered the origin of Western civilization.

  • Describe the area where Greek culture evolved and the different stages of Greek expansion.

  • Get to know the different types of settltements at the beginning og Greek expansion: polis and colonies.

  • Analyse thr differences brought about by the Hellenic Empire regarding the former territorial structuring of Greek culture:expansion towards the East and acknowledging the Mediterrranean Sea as a vital geographical space.

  • Get to know the historical periods of ancient Greek history,distinguishing the main figures and events.

  • Point out the influence of Athens over the rest of Greek polis thanks to its military superiority and level trade.

  • Analyse the Athenian democratic system and its different institutions.

  • Study the social inequalities in Athens and the concepts of citizens and non-citizens.

  • Get to know the main Greek military conflicts throughout history and the peoples they confronted.

  • Main Greek military conflicts: PersianWars and Peloponnesian War.
